Speechify sells three products on three bills, and the one most people know, the Reader app at $29 a month or $139 a year, is for listening, not publishing: Speechify's terms say its services other than Voice Over Studio are not intended for commercial use. Audio you plan to sell or post needs a Studio plan, from $19 a month, or the separate SpeechifyAI developer API, which bills per character. A Reader subscription includes neither, and neither includes Reader.

The output and dollar columns are our arithmetic on Speechify's per-second rates; its own Creator card prints 3 h 12 min of dubbing, which does not match its 3-credit rate. Annual billing changes the economics more than the plan does: annual Starter costs less per voiceover hour than monthly Creator. Free cannot download MP3s and carries no commercial rights; Starter and Creator do, and Speechify says you own Studio output with commercial rights in perpetuity. Re-exporting unchanged speech costs nothing, and volume changes are free, but pitch, speed and prosody edits spend credits. Speechify's Studio plan cards do not list voice cloning.

The API is priced per character and sold monthly only

The included usage is a dollar balance drawn at the plan's rate, and it expires at the end of each billing period; top-ups bought on top never expire, and auto top-up is off by default. Past the included characters, Starter charges $10 per million, Pro $8 and Scale $6, while Free pauses until the next month. Only spoken characters count, not SSML tags. Voice cloning starts at Starter, from a 10- to 30-second clip plus verified spoken consent, with no per-clone fee. Starter allows up to three seats and Scale up to 25. Voice agents are an enterprise product with no published per-minute rate, so any per-minute agent price you see attached to Speechify's self-serve plans is not Speechify's.

The upgrade point between API plans is where overage on the smaller plan passes the next plan's fee. Our arithmetic: Starter plus $10-per-million overage reaches Pro's $99 at about 10.8 million characters a month, well below Pro's 13.5 million included, so anyone regularly past about 11 million characters should be on Pro, and Pro plus $8-per-million overage reaches Scale's $499 at about 63.5 million. These figures hold for the Simba 3.0 and 3.2 models; Speechify launch-prices Simba 3.5 at the same rates until 21 November 2026 and lists it at $20, $16 and $12 per million after that, which halves both the included characters and the crossover points for Simba 3.5 traffic.

Premium Reader's celebrity voices are for listening only

Premium's 1,000+ voices, celebrity voices such as Snoop Dogg included, are for listening only too: Speechify reserves audio for resale or public distribution to a Studio license, so they are not a cheaper route to publishable narration. Speechify's pricing pages publish no team or education seat prices.

    Studio credits count seconds of audio (1 per second of voiceover, 3 for dubbing, 30 for avatars), while the API bills characters with a per-million overage, so model each separately before production use.

  2. Separate products

    Reader, Studio, API, and team routes answer different jobs and should not be treated as one interchangeable subscription.

  3. Trial and renewal timing

    The terms describe free trials and recurring subscriptions, so cancellation, conversion, renewal, and promotional pricing should be checked before paying.
