Gemini Omni Flash vs Veo 3.1 in Google Flow: Credits, Length and Editing

In Google Flow an 8-second Gemini Omni Flash clip costs 12 credits at 720p; Veo 3.1 costs 10 to 100 depending on Lite, Fast or Quality. Omni runs to 10 seconds and edits existing video; only Veo 3.1 Lite extends a clip.

In short

Use Gemini Omni Flash for most work in Google Flow: an 8-second clip costs 12 Flow credits at 720p, or 6 as a 360p draft, it runs to 10 seconds, and it is the only model in Flow that edits an uploaded or generated video. Use Veo 3.1 when you need to extend a clip, which only Veo 3.1 Lite does, or when you specifically want Veo's output: Lite costs 10 credits per generation, Fast 20 and Quality 100, and Google AI Ultra subscribers pay half for Lite and Fast. Google's Flow help pages compare the models by credits and features rather than by output quality, so this page does the same.

The prices are per generation, not per request, and one Flow request can produce two videos, so a single prompt can cost twice the figure in the table. Read the last column for the like-for-like comparison: at the 8-second length both families share, Omni at 720p costs about as much as Veo 3.1 Lite outside Ultra, and a Veo 3.1 Quality clip costs as much as eight Omni clips.

On Google AI Pro's 1,000 monthly Flow credits that difference is large. They buy about 83 eight-second Omni clips at 720p or 166 drafts at 360p, but only 10 Veo 3.1 Quality clips (ToolColumn's calculation, before the 50 daily credits every account gets). The Google Flow pricing page lists what each Google AI plan adds.

Two rows decide most choices. Editing belongs to Omni alone: give it an existing clip and a new prompt or ingredient and it returns the edited video, which no Veo version does in Flow. Extending belongs to Veo 3.1 Lite alone, and it extends 8-second clips from any Veo 3.1 version, so you can generate in Fast or Quality and extend the clip in Lite. References work across every Omni length but only on 8-second clips for Veo Lite and Fast.

The 360p draft is Omni's cost lever. A draft costs half the 720p price, and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can upscale an Omni 360p clip to 720p for 0 credits, so iterating at 360p and upscaling the keeper costs about half of working at 720p throughout. Upscaling any model's clip to 1080p is free on Plus, Pro and Ultra, and 4K upscaling costs 50 credits on Ultra only.

Omni for drafts and edits, Veo 3.1 Lite for extensions

  • Drafting and iterating on a shot: Omni Flash at 360p, then upscale the version you keep.
  • Changing an existing clip: Omni Flash, the only model in Flow that edits video.
  • A single clip longer than 8 seconds: Omni Flash at 10 seconds; for longer sequences, Veo 3.1 Lite extensions.
  • Steady volume on Google AI Ultra: Veo 3.1 Lite at Lower Priority costs 0 credits, so Ultra subscribers who can wait in a slower queue get Veo clips without spending their monthly balance.
  • The most expensive Veo tier: Veo 3.1 Quality, at 100 credits for 8 seconds on every plan, with no references and no extending of its own.

The same two models outside Flow

Flow credits are not the only way to pay. Runway's developer API, priced at $0.01 per credit, lists Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 at 10 credits per second at 720p and 3.4 at 360p, against 40 credits per second for Veo 3.1 with audio and 20 without. That is roughly $0.80 for an 8-second Omni clip at 720p and $3.20 for an 8-second Veo 3.1 clip with audio. Inside Google's own products, Flow credits and the Gemini API bill separately; Flow credits vs Veo API pricing covers that split.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Gemini Omni Flash cheaper than Veo 3.1 in Google Flow?

Cheaper than Veo 3.1 Fast and Quality, not than Lite. An 8-second Omni Flash clip costs 12 Flow credits at 720p or 6 at 360p; Veo 3.1 Lite costs 10, Fast 20 and Quality 100. Google AI Ultra subscribers pay half for Lite and Fast, and nothing for Lite at Lower Priority.

Can I extend a Gemini Omni Flash video?

Not yet. Google lists extending as coming soon for Omni Flash. Today only Veo 3.1 Lite extends clips, and it can extend any 8-second Veo 3.1 video, including one made with Fast or Quality.

Can I edit an existing video with Veo 3.1 in Flow?

No. Video-to-video editing is an Omni Flash feature: it edits uploaded or generated clips up to 10 seconds for 40 credits per generation. None of the Veo 3.1 versions edits an existing video in Flow.

Do I need a Google AI plan to use these models?

Not for Omni Flash: Google says all users can access Gemini Omni models, and everyone gets 50 Flow credits a day. Without a subscription you may not be able to generate videos between about 2 and 5 PM UTC. Upscaling to 1080p and the monthly credit grants need Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra.
