ChatGPT Pro 100 vs Pro 200 vs Pro 500: Which Pro Plan to Buy

On September 29, 2026, OpenAI turned ChatGPT Pro into three monthly plans: Pro 100 at $100, Pro 200 at $200 and a new Pro 500 at $500. The same day it reopened Pro 200 to new subscriptions, but with a lower included allowance than the tier used to carry. If you have already decided that Plus is not enough, the remaining question is which of the three to buy, and whether an existing Pro 200 subscription is still the right one after October 29.

The short answer

Buy Pro 100 when you need Pro features (Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, a dot and maximum deep research) but Plus limits interrupt you only occasionally. Buy Pro 500 when you run Codex or ChatGPT Work for most of the day, need the highest included usage, or want GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast, which no other Pro tier offers. Pro 200 sits between them; because OpenAI has not published its new allowance multiple, treat it as "more than Pro 100" and confirm the limits shown in your account before paying for it.

The three Pro plans side by side

All three plans include everything in Plus plus Pro reasoning powered by GPT-6 Astra, longer Codex and ChatGPT Work sessions, unlimited and faster image creation, maximum deep research, maximum memory and context, and research previews of new features. OpenAI describes the plans as sharing these capabilities and differing in included usage, with Ultrafast reserved for Pro 500. Pro does not offer annual billing or prepaying for several months.

What changed for Pro 200

Pro 200 is available to new subscribers again at $200 per month, after new sign-ups were paused in September. New subscriptions that are not eligible for grandfathering receive a lower included allowance than Pro 200 previously offered; OpenAI attributes the change to more efficient models and has not published the new multiple on its public pages.

Existing subscribers are treated differently. If your Pro 200 subscription was active at the eligibility cutoff, or during the seven days before it, you keep your previous included allowance through October 29, 2026 while the subscription stays active. After that date the subscription moves to the lower allowance at the same $200 price, and OpenAI emails affected users with the details. Keeping the previous allowance does not upgrade the plan or add Ultrafast.

That makes October 29 the practical decision date for current Pro 200 subscribers:

• If your recent weekly usage would fit comfortably inside Pro 100's 5x allowance, moving down saves $100 per month.
• If you regularly run out of Codex or ChatGPT Work capacity even on the previous Pro 200 allowance, compare Pro 500's 25x allowance with the cost of buying credits on Pro 200.
• If neither applies, check the new limits shown in Settings after the change before deciding.

Scheduling a cancellation keeps access until the end of the billing period and can be undone before it ends, so you can plan a change without losing the current month.

Ultrafast and credits

Ultrafast is OpenAI's premium speed tier. In Codex it generates up to 8x faster than standard speed, about 300 tokens per second; in the API OpenAI quotes up to 6x. GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex on Pro 500 and Enterprise, selected in the model picker, and it uses the plan's included allowance first and then the credit balance. OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is coming soon but has not launched it.

Buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock Ultrafast. Credits extend eligible usage in Codex, ChatGPT Work and the ChatGPT add-ins for Word, Excel and PowerPoint after the included allowance runs out, and they are used after included usage. They are a way to absorb an occasional heavy week on a cheaper tier, not a route to Pro 500 features.

Dots on Pro

Every Pro tier includes a dot, OpenAI's always-on agent powered by GPT-6 Astra, rolling out to eligible users aged 18 and over in supported markets. Pro access to dots excludes the European Economic Area, Switzerland and the UK at launch. The first dot is included at no extra cost, conversations with it do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits, and for the first month after launch dot usage does not count toward plan allowances. Choosing by workload

A simple check before paying for a higher tier: note how often in the last month you hit a Codex or Work limit and what the work was worth. If buying credits on the lower tier would have cost less than the price difference, stay on the lower tier.

How to change plans

Open Settings, then My Plan, to see your subscription and the plan changes available to you. At launch, Pro 500 subscriptions are available through ChatGPT on the web. Cancel through the platform where you subscribed: ChatGPT, Apple or Google Play.

Bottom line

Pro 100 is the default Pro purchase, Pro 500 is for sustained all-day agent work and Ultrafast, and Pro 200 is a middle tier whose new allowance you should verify in your own account. Current Pro 200 subscribers have until October 29, 2026 on their previous allowance, which is the natural point to move down to Pro 100 or up to Pro 500 based on actual usage.
