ChatGPT Plus vs Business: $20 Personal Plan or $25 per Seat Workspace
ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month for one person; Business is $25 per seat ($20 annually) with a two-seat minimum. Standard seats get about the same Work and Codex allowance as Plus, plus GPT-6 Pro, admin controls and no training on your data by default.
ChatGPT Plus costs $20 a month for one person. ChatGPT Business costs $25 per Standard seat a month, or $20 billed annually, and a workspace needs at least two seats, so the smallest Business plan is $40 a month on annual billing. A Standard Business seat gets about the same ChatGPT Work and Codex allowance as Plus, plus 15 GPT-6 Pro messages a month, a workspace whose data OpenAI does not train on by default, and admin controls. Premium seats, at $125 a month or $100 billed annually, get five times the Standard allowance and no five-hour limit.

Usage limits: closer than the price gap suggests
For ChatGPT Work and Codex, OpenAI's Codex pricing page gives Plus and Standard Business seats the same estimates of local messages per five hours: 5–45 on GPT-6 Astra, 15–160 on GPT-6.1 Sol, 15–150 on GPT-6 Sol and 350–3,000 on GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI's Business help article lists 15–150 for GPT-6.1 Sol on Standard seats, so treat the two figures as the same range with a small difference between sources. Both are estimates, not fixed limits.
The clearest usage difference is GPT-6 Pro in Chat. Plus does not include it; Plus gets GPT-6 Astra in Work and Codex instead. A Standard Business seat includes 15 Pro messages a month, shared between GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. Premium seats raise that to 50 a week and lift the Work and Codex allowance to five times Standard, with no five-hour limit.
Everyday Instant chat is effectively unlimited on both plans, subject to OpenAI's guardrails against abuse. OpenAI's Business article notes that this does not extend to reasoning, Pro, Work or Codex usage.
What Business adds besides usage
- Data handling. OpenAI does not train on a Business workspace's data by default. On Plus, content can be used to train models unless you turn that off in your data controls.
- Administration. Business includes SAML SSO and MFA, central billing, admin roles, usage analytics and spend controls.
- Seats as capacity. Owners buy Standard or Premium seats and assign them to members, then reassign or switch seat types as needs change.
- Shared credits. When a member reaches a limit, usage can continue from a workspace credit pool that the owner buys and controls. Plus credits belong to one person.
Neither plan includes OpenAI API usage, which is billed separately. Business is also self-serve by card: invoices, purchase orders, bank transfer, net terms, Zero Data Retention and BAAs need a contracted plan instead.
What it costs
Setup | Monthly billing | Annual billing (per month) |
|---|---|---|
One Plus subscription | $20 | Not offered |
Two Plus subscriptions | $40 | Not offered |
Business, two Standard seats | $50 | $40 |
Business, one Standard and one Premium seat | $150 | $120 |
The totals multiply OpenAI's list prices; local prices can vary by country and currency. A single person cannot buy Business alone, because a workspace needs at least two seats.
Which plan fits
- Plus for one person whose work does not need a company workspace, admin controls or default no-training.
- Business with Standard seats for two or more people who handle company information, or who need SSO, central billing and spend controls. The allowance per person is about the same as Plus.
- Business with a Premium seat for the heaviest Work and Codex user on a team, instead of moving that person to a personal Pro plan.

FAQ
Common questions
Is ChatGPT Business better than Plus for one person?
Usually not. A Business workspace needs at least two seats, so the smallest plan is $40 a month on annual billing, and a Standard seat gets about the same Work and Codex allowance as Plus. Business makes sense for one person only when they need default no-training, admin controls or GPT-6 Pro in Chat.
Does ChatGPT Business have higher usage limits than Plus?
A Standard seat has about the same five-hour Work and Codex estimates as Plus and adds 15 GPT-6 Pro messages a month in Chat. A Premium seat has five times the Standard Work and Codex allowance, no five-hour limit and 50 Pro messages a week.
Does OpenAI train on ChatGPT Plus or Business data?
OpenAI does not train on a Business workspace’s data by default. On Plus, content can be used to train models unless you opt out in your data controls.
Can I buy ChatGPT Business with one seat?
No. A Business workspace needs at least two Standard or Premium seats in total, for example two Standard seats or one of each. Seats are capacity the owner assigns to members and can reassign later.
Is ChatGPT Business cheaper if I pay annually?
Yes. A Standard seat costs $25 a month on monthly billing or $20 a month billed annually, and a Premium seat $125 or $100. Plus is billed monthly only, at $20.
Do ChatGPT Plus or Business include the OpenAI API?
No. Both plans are ChatGPT subscriptions, and OpenAI API usage is billed separately on the API platform. Business workspace credits only extend usage of ChatGPT features such as Work and Codex.
