Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant and model family for writing, research, analysis and coding, available on web, desktop and mobile, inside Claude Code for software work, and through the Claude API. The current lineup is Fable 5.1 for the hardest long-horizon work, Opus 5.5 as the default for most tasks, Sonnet 5.5 for speed and value, and Haiku 5.5 for fast, high-volume jobs such as classification, extraction and routing. On the API, Fable 5.1 costs $10/$50, Opus 5.5 $4/$20 and Sonnet 5.5 $2/$10 per million input and output tokens; Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10/$0.50 for prompts up to 100,000 tokens and $0.50/$2.50 above that, and Haiku 4.5 remains available as a legacy model at $1/$5. The Free plan covers chat, web search, files and Artifacts. Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 billed annually, and adds Claude Code, Projects, Research and Claude in Chrome; Max costs $100 or $200 a month for five or twenty times Pro's usage. Team seats cost $20 or $100 a month billed annually, and Enterprise is $20 per seat plus usage at API rates. The main caveat is that plans and the API are billed separately, although Max and Team now include monthly API credits, and plan usage resets on rolling five-hour and weekly limits.

How do Opus 5.5, Fable 5.1, and Sonnet 5.5 fit together?

Does a paid Claude subscription include Claude API usage?

Claude app subscriptions and the Claude API are billed separately, but since October 2026 Max and Team include monthly API credits: $100 on Max 5x, $200 on Max 20x, and $20 per Standard or $100 per Premium Team seat, pooled and capped at $500. They pay for Claude API, Agent SDK and claude -p usage in a linked Console organization, do not roll over, and do not cover interactive Claude Code. Free, Pro and Enterprise include no API credit.
How is Claude Code billed with a Claude plan?
Claude Code is included with paid Claude plans when you authenticate with the Claude account, and its activity shares the plan’s usage limits with other Claude surfaces. Authenticating with an API key instead moves that work to separate API billing.
Are Fable 5 and 5.1 included in every paid Claude plan?
Fable 5 and 5.1 share up to 50% of regular weekly usage on Max and Premium seats; Pro and Standard seats use paid usage credits from the start. This is not an extra allowance for each model. Direct API use is separately metered.
