Overview

Bottom line

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant and model family for writing, research, coding, analysis, documents, and multimodal work. It is sold through Claude app subscriptions and team plans, and it is also available through the separate Anthropic API billing lane.

The June 2026 Fable 5 and Mythos 5 release changes the high-end model picture without making every Claude buyer change plans. Fable 5 is the practical general-access Mythos-class lane for difficult reasoning, coding-adjacent work, long-context synthesis, and larger output workflows. Mythos 5 is a restricted-access path for vetted or trusted use cases, not a normal self-serve Claude upgrade.

For pricing, keep app subscriptions and API usage separate. Claude subscription entry pricing does not have to change just because the model lineup changed, but API buyers now need to model Fable 5 and Mythos 5 at the official high-end API rate of $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, with Opus 4.8 remaining a lower-cost high-end route at $5 and $25 per million tokens.

App subscriptionPrimary

Claude subscription

From $17/mo

Claude app access runs through Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscription lanes with plan-based limits; the Fable 5 launch does not by itself change the app subscription entry price.

Direct API

Anthropic API

From $10/1M tokens

Anthropic API calls are token-metered separately from Claude subscriptions. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are listed at $10 per 1M input tokens and $50 per 1M output tokens; Mythos access is restricted.

Team workspace

Claude Team seats

From $20/seat/mo

Team access uses per-seat workspace pricing with administration and policy controls; restricted Mythos access should be handled through enterprise or approved access conversations.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Claude free to use?

Yes. Claude has a free plan, while Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise add more capacity, features, and administrative controls.

What changed with Claude Fable 5?

Fable 5 is Anthropic's newer high-end, generally available Mythos-class model lane. It matters most for hard reasoning, coding-adjacent work, long-context synthesis, and API workflows that can justify higher token pricing.

Can normal Claude users access Mythos 5?

No. Mythos 5 is a restricted-access path for vetted or trusted use cases. Most Claude buyers should evaluate normal Claude access, Opus 4.8, and Fable 5 rather than assuming Mythos availability.

Are Claude subscriptions and Anthropic API pricing the same budget?

No. Claude app subscriptions and Anthropic API usage are separate billing lanes. API buyers should model token pricing separately, especially for Fable 5 or other high-end Claude models.
