Overview

Bottom line

Clay is a GTM-native platform for turning prospect, customer, and intent data into reusable revenue workflows. Teams use its tables and Audiences to source and unify records, run multi-provider enrichments, add AI research with Claygent, monitor signals, and send qualified data into CRMs, sequencers, ad platforms, or other business systems. Functions package repeatable enrichment and decision logic so operators can update it centrally and reuse it across workbooks and audiences.

It is best for growth, RevOps, marketing operations, and GTM engineering teams whose automation begins with people, company, or account data. The core caveat is that Clay is not a universal replacement for horizontal automation builders: its strongest use cases stay close to enrichment, segmentation, research, scoring, routing, and activation. The newer graph-based Workflows orchestration surface is still in open beta, even though the broader Clay platform is generally available.

Buyers can learn with free access or a trial, then choose a self-serve workspace according to orchestration and data capacity. CRM-connected activation and advanced controls sit behind higher tiers, while large deployments use sales-led terms. Budget Clay Actions and Data Credits separately from external provider keys, CRM licenses, and downstream tools.

FAQ

Common questions

What is Clay best used for?

Clay is strongest when a go-to-market workflow starts with people, company, account, CRM, warehouse or intent data and needs enrichment, research, scoring, routing or activation.

Is Clay a general-purpose automation platform?

Clay can orchestrate substantial workflows, but its center of gravity is GTM data and execution. It should not be treated as a universal replacement for every horizontal app-automation or backend-integration builder.

Is Clay Workflows generally available?

No. The broader Clay platform is generally available, but the graph-based Workflows feature remains in open beta. Clay currently exposes additional Alpha boundaries for some Workflows operations through its Agent Plugin and CLI.

How does Clay charge for usage?

Modern plans separate Actions, which measure Clay's orchestration work, from Data Credits, which pay for marketplace data and AI. Bringing an external provider key can avoid Clay Data Credit charges, but the Action and the provider's own bill remain.

Does Clay charge per seat?

Clay's current plan table includes unlimited seats and tables rather than a per-seat price. Usage is shared at workspace level, while some viewer, RBAC, connection-control and budget features are Enterprise-only.

Can teams use Clay through an API or CLI?

Yes. Clay offers a Public API, CLI and Agent Plugin. Equivalent work consumes the same Actions and Data Credits rather than a separate API tariff, but supported operations and limits vary by plan and release stage.
