Watchouts

What buyers often miss

The limits and purchase traps worth checking before you optimize for the lowest headline number.

  1. Quota matters more than plan count

Choose between Free, Pro, and Max based on actual daily and weekly quota pressure.

  2. Enterprise is a sales route

Use Enterprise for custom governance and procurement, not as a public self-serve plan.

Subscription, API, and workspace routes

Each route shows who owns the bill and whether access is bundled, separately metered, sold as an add-on, or handled through sales.

Notes

Pricing notes

Plan caveats, contract terms, and feature-access limits that can change what you actually pay.

Renaming Windsurf to Devin Desktop on June 2, 2026 did not change what you pay: Cognition kept every plan and price, so a Windsurf Pro subscription simply became Devin Desktop Pro. What decides your bill is how fast you use the token-based quota and, for teams, how the $80 minimum works with the two seat types.

How the quota turns into cost

Each paid plan includes a usage budget measured in tokens, not a number of requests. Pro and Teams full seats get a daily and a weekly allowance, and the daily one is larger than a seventh of the weekly, so weekend work does not waste the week. Max has only a weekly allowance, with no daily cap. What a request costs depends on the model: free models do not count against the quota, and frontier models use it up fastest.

When the allowance runs out, Free users wait for the next reset. Pro, Max and Teams can keep working on extra usage, billed at the model's API list price from prepaid on-demand credits that roll over and never expire. If you already pay for ChatGPT Go, Plus or Pro, you can link it so GPT model usage is billed to that plan instead of your Devin allowance.

When Pro stops being enough

Cognition describes the quotas only as light, increased and significantly higher, so there is no published number to compare. Your own usage meter (Settings > Usage & limits) is the test. If you buy extra usage most weeks, compare that spend with the $180 a month between Pro and Max. If you hit the daily cap but rarely the weekly one, Max's missing daily cap may be the actual fix.

Teams: an $80 minimum, not a base fee

Teams costs at least $80 a month. Full seats are $40 each and include a Pro-level quota and Devin Desktop access. Flex seats are free but draw only on the team's shared credits and do not include Devin Desktop. With fewer than two full seats, the rest of the $80 is charged as prepaid credits the team can spend.

The totals cover seats only; shared extra usage comes on top. A full seat costs twice a Pro subscription, so five developers pay $200 on Teams against $100 on five separate Pro plans. The difference buys centralized billing, the admin dashboard with analytics, shared credits and priority support, not more quota per person.

Older subscriptions and Enterprise

Subscribers from before the March 2026 switch to quotas keep their old prices indefinitely: $15 a month for Pro and $30 per Teams developer seat. Cognition's pricing page lists no annual prices for new subscribers. Enterprise is sold through sales, is billed in ACUs rather than the self-serve quota, and adds SAML/OIDC single sign-on, centralized admin controls and a VPC deployment option. There are no free trials of paid plans; instead, Cognition refunds a new subscription you cancel before using it.
