Read the second column for the jump that matters: included hours go from 3 to 15 only at Pro $100 and Business Premium. The third column shows whether you talk to the smaller Quip model (Free and Go) or the full GPT-Live-1.1. OpenAI's help article does not list Pro $500 separately. The pricing page's comparison table marks Pro voice as "Unlimited" without splitting the Pro tiers, so check the limit notice in your own account if you are on Pro $500.

The 24 hours roll; they do not reset at midnight

Live usage in Chat is measured over a rolling 24-hour period. Our reading of that rule: minutes you spent at 9 a.m. count against you until 9 a.m. the next day, so a long late-evening session can still block a call the next morning even though the calendar day has changed. ChatGPT notifies you when you reach the limit.

What happens at the limit changed on 2026-09-09. Plus and Pro no longer drop to a smaller voice model after reaching a Voice limit, so the conversation ends and you continue in text or come back when minutes free up. A conversation can also end for two reasons that are not your plan limit: the maximum session length, and a long conversation reaching its context limit. You can run one Voice conversation at a time, and a background conversation, including one on a locked phone, ends at a usage limit or the maximum session length.

Three other voice meters that do not use these hours the same way

Voice in Work (web and mobile) follows your plan's Voice limits and billing, and the Work task itself also counts toward your normal Work usage, exactly as if you had typed it. A long spoken Work session therefore draws on two allowances at once.

Voice in the desktop app has separate pricing: it uses the Codex usage budget at $0.05 per minute, and the model doing the task is billed on top at its own token rates. Workspaces on credit-based billing pay 1.25 credits per minute, the same rate Plus and Pro users pay when they spend purchased credits there. Desktop voice is not available through an API key.

Video and screen sharing are not part of Live at all. Eligible Go, Plus and Pro subscribers use them through Advanced in the iOS and Android apps, and OpenAI describes a separate video and screen-sharing limit: reaching it may stop the camera or screen feed while the voice conversation continues. Free has no voice with video. Dictation, which turns one recording into editable text, has no published limit.

What extra voice costs on Business and Enterprise

On Business the included hours are measured over a rolling 24 hours, and every minute beyond them is 1.25 workspace credits. As an illustrative workload, a Business Standard seat that talks 4 hours on each of 20 working days uses 3 included hours a day plus 60 extra minutes, or 75 credits a day and 1,500 credits a month. This treats each day as its own window. OpenAI does not say whether credit-paid minutes count toward the rolling 24 hours; if they do, a seat that talks at the same hours every day may pay for most of its minutes. Business Premium covers that seat inside its 15 hours, so compare the monthly credit draw with the Premium seat price ($125 a month against $25 for Standard on monthly billing, or $100 against $20 billed annually) rather than buying Premium for one heavy speaker by default.

Enterprise on usage-based USD pricing pays $0.05 per minute, which is $3 per hour of voice. OpenAI lists no included hours for credit-based Enterprise and Edu, so we budget every minute at 1.25 credits; budget those workspaces by expected minutes rather than by seats.

When voice alone justifies Pro $100 or Pro $200

Upgrading from Plus to Pro $100 moves voice from 3 to 15 hours per rolling 24 hours, so it pays off for voice only if you regularly run out of Plus's 3 hours. Pro $200's unlimited voice matters only above 15 hours in 24, which few people reach by talking; buy Pro $200 for its other included usage and treat unlimited voice as a side effect. FAQ

Common questions

How many hours of ChatGPT Voice do I get on Plus?

Plus includes up to 3 hours of Live with GPT-Live-1.1, measured over a rolling 24-hour period. ChatGPT notifies you when you reach the limit; since September 2026 Plus no longer switches to a smaller voice model at that point, so the conversation stops and you can continue in text.

Is ChatGPT Voice free?

Yes, Free includes limited access to Live with GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, the smaller model. OpenAI publishes no number of minutes for Free and says the limit may change; ChatGPT notifies you when you reach it.

Does ChatGPT Pro $100 include unlimited voice?

No. The ChatGPT Voice help article lists Pro $100 at 15 hours of GPT-Live-1.1 per rolling 24 hours, and only Pro $200 as unlimited, subject to abuse guardrails. The pricing page's comparison table labels Pro voice Unlimited without separating the tiers, so rely on the help article for the per-tier figure.

What happens after the included hours on ChatGPT Business?

Business Standard includes 3 hours and Business Premium 15 hours of GPT-Live-1.1 per rolling 24 hours. Additional Voice use consumes 1.25 workspace credits per minute, so a workspace needs available credits for voice beyond the included hours.

Does voice in the ChatGPT desktop app use the same limit?

No. Voice in Desktop uses the Codex usage budget at $0.05 per minute, and the model handling the task is billed separately at its token rates. Credit-based workspaces pay 1.25 credits per minute, and desktop voice is not available through an API key.

Can I share video or my screen within these hours?

Not in Live, which does not support video or screen sharing. Eligible Go, Plus and Pro subscribers can use video and screen sharing through Advanced in the iOS and Android apps, which has its own video and screen-sharing limit; reaching it does not necessarily end the voice conversation.
